MyPPC

Introduction

The idea for a reference group was mooted in 2013. It was hoped that this initiative could unite paediatricians in efforts to promote palliative care for children. By consensus this group would be placed as a sub-committee of the Malaysian Paediatric Association. The aim of the group then was to facilitate service development, research and education of paediatric palliative care in Malaysia. The founding committee members were are Dato’ Kuan Geok Lan, Dr Khoo Teik Beng, Dr Chong Lee Ai, Dr Fahisham Taib, Dr Farah Khalid and Dr Ong Gek Bee

As paediatric palliative care is growing in Malaysia, more decisive and coordinated efforts are required to advocate for better quality palliative care for children in Malaysia. There are efforts by multiple stakeholders to contribute towards improving care for children with serious and life-limiting illnesses and their families.

On 6th November, the National Palliative Care Strategy and Policy was launched at YB Datuk Seri Dr. Dzulkefly Ahmad at Hospital Selayang. It was a momentous milestone for the country’s Palliative Care. It was also extremely important that paediatric palliative care stands together with the adults in this national policy.

MyPPC’s Vision:

All children in Malaysia who needs palliative care shall have access to quality palliative care without additional financial burden.

MyPPC’s Mission:

To enable children with serious and life-limiting illnesses to live a life of meaning and quality.

To empower children and their families to achieve personalised palliative care.

To advocate and enhance co-operation with all stakeholders to raise awareness on the needs for quality palliative care.

To ensure education and training is provided to all involved in care of children with palliative care needs.

To strive to maintain standards of quality palliative care provided to children and their families.
