Assalamualaikum & Good Day everyone,
Praise be to Allah and His Prophet Muhammad SAW (peace be upon him).
I am delighted to address all of you as the President of the Malaysian Paediatric Association (MPA) through the pages of this esteemed Berita MPA. It is an honour to extend a warm and hearty welcome to all of you, our valued members and supporters of MPA.
Our 44th MPA Congress 2023 was successfully conducted at Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre. It was attended by more than 500 delegates across the country over a three-day period with pre-congress workshops one day prior to the main congress held at four different venues. I would like to express my profound gratitude to all our dedicated members, partners, and sponsors who have been unwavering in their support in ensuring the success of the congress. This annual meeting not only provides us with a platform to learn from each other, but also forge new partnerships, catch up with old colleagues, and chart the course for an even brighter future for paediatric healthcare in Malaysia.
I see MPA as more than just an organisation; it is a dedicated community of healthcare professionals, researchers, educators, and advocates working tirelessly to ensure the health and well-being of our nation’s children. Some of the members are not aware that MPA do provide assistance in travel and research grants to the members (of course after evaluation from our education board first) with funding either from MPA or MPF. As for children and community engagement, MPA also provides some assistance to help in running the non-profi t activities meant for the enhancement of children’s well-being.
Another milestone that MPA has achieved recently with our online journal, Malaysian Journal of Paediatrics and Child Health (MJPCH), is that it has been listed under MyCite and has increased its publication output from twice per year to three publications per year. MJPCH has applied to be included under Scopus list and we look forward to receive the result. Please visit MPA website to get more info on our latest activities, announcement and upcoming events at https://mpaeds.my/.
Visibility & relevance
We also intend to make MPA more visible and relevant to the public and also among policymakers, especially when it comes to matters related to the wellbeing of children and adolescent. National issues on child abuse, vaping, nutrition, vaccination and others have yet to be resolved, and we at MPA would like to have our voice heard.
As the newly elected President of MPA, my vision is to lead MPA at the forefront of ensuring the well-being and health of every child in Malaysia. We envision a nation where every child has the opportunity to thrive, grow, and reach their fullest potential, supported by a community of dedicated paediatricians and healthcare professionals. Our ultimate goal is to create a brighter and healthier future for the children of Malaysia.
Insyaallah, God willing, MPA commits to fulfi l the following missions:
- Promoting Children’s Well-Being
- Increasing Our Membership (Life Members and Associate Members)
- Advocacy and Education
- Community Engagement
- Research Collaboration
Finally, I would like to take this opportunity to thank our immediate past president of MPA, Dr Selvakumar Sivapunniam, for his passionate leadership, and the Executive Committee Members of 2021/2023 for the fantastic and dedicated commitment in running the activities and ensuring MPA’s relevance. I also extend my heartfelt gratitude to the dedicated team of BMPA headed by Datuk Dr Zulkifli Ismail and staff for their unwavering support in helping MPA amplify the message of child health and paediatric care.
In the coming months, let us explore, learn, and collaborate as we work collectively to provide the best possible care, support, and advocacy for our children.
I would like to quote one wise advice from Khalifah Abu Bakr (the 1st Caliph) after he was appointed as the khalifah:
“O people, indeed I have been chosen to lead you all, and I am not the best among all of you. If I do good then help me, and if I do wrong then correct me. The truth is a trust and the lie is a betrayal.”
Thank you for your readership and support. Together, we can create a brighter and healthier future for the children of Malaysia.
