From the President
REFLECTIONS…and moving forward
Assalamualaikum and Salam Sejahtera to esteemed members of MPA.
First and foremost, as the newly elected President of MPA for 2017-2019, I would like to express my heartiest gratitude to Dr Thiyagar Nadarajaw, the immediate past president, who had done a splendid job during his tenure as the MPA President for 2015- 2017. I would also like to thank all the MPA 2015-2017 executive committee members for their assistance and cooperation rendered throughout the two year period. Special thanks goes to Dr Kok Chin Leong, Dr Koh Chong Tuan and Prof Dr Wan Ariffin Abdullah who had dedicated their time for MPA the last few years.
New Exco Members
I am proud to announce the list of new MPA 2017-2019 Executive Committee Members i.e. Vice President, Dr Hung Liang Choo, the ever efficient Secretary Assoc Prof Dr Tang Swee Fong, the Assistant Secretary Dr Selva Kumar Sivapuniam, the Treasurer Dato’ Dr Musa Mohd Nordin and the Committee Members consisting of Datuk Dr Zulkifli Ismail, Datuk Dr Soo Thian Lian, Dr Noor Khatijah Nurani and THREE newly minted MPA Committee Members, Dr Khoo Teik Beng, Dr Mohamad Ikram Ilias and Dr Ong Eng-Joe.
MPA hopes to continue to grow and foster better relationship with members locally whilst engaging in strong relationships with international groups. MPA hopes members from paediatric subspecialty societies/groups to come forward and collaborate with MPA in bringing international paediatric congresses to Malaysia. To date, I am proud to announce that MPA is collaborating with Paediatric Neurology Chapter in hosting the 15th Asian Oceanian Congress of Child Neurology (AOCCN) in 2019 and with Asia Pacific Paediatric Endocrine Society for the 2020 MPA Congress.
One of the visions of MPA is to impart and spread paediatric knowledge. I would like to take this opportunity to encourage members of MPA, to be actively involved either through the states or national level activities. I would also appreciate it if members would offer their suggestions and comments in improving these activities.
External Collaboration
Collaborative activities with MOH and MOE as well as other agencies including NGOs, especially in relation to dispensing knowledge and advocacy work is always near to the heart of MPA. MPA has been and will continue to be actively involved with advocacy work especially on immunisation issues, childhood obesity and child maltreatment, to name a few.
I would also like to stress that MPA has and will always strive to reach out to young paediatricians. MPA values current members and would love to attract new members. I also hope that all members feel the inclusivity when it comes to taking part in all MPA activities.
Research
MPA would also like to embark on more research work among members. We encourage members to grab any research grant opportunities offered under the MPA banner. Information about these opportunities will be constantly updated through our MPA website and the Berita MPA.
I am pretty sure members of MPA are already talking about when and where our next MPA Congress is going to be held. Please be assured that all measures are in place and the announcement will be made soon…so STAY TUNED.
Finally, I would like to pledge for all MPA members to work towards the betterment of our children in whichever way possible for they are our FUTURE…
