Assalamualaikum and Salam Sejahtera to esteemed members of MPA
Friends and Colleagues!
10 April 2018 marks a new milestone for MPA. A fresh, new look MPA website, mpaeds.my was launched. As the MPA President, I do hope you will like the new look and feel, as it reflects our effort to communicate with our members in a more exciting and contemporary manner.
As we become increasingly busy in this day and age, we realise it is all the more important that we stay in touch on a regular basis and in a way that is compatible with our lifestyles and professional needs. And to make it worth your while, we have made an effort to restructure the website where we will provide you with more original content that covers our activities, views and opinions of our members. We will also issue monthly electronic direct mailers (e-mails) which we cordially invite you to click to enjoy the content therein.
Another huge milestone achieved by MPA with regards to children’s growth was the gathering of more than 150 paediatricians nationwide on April 7, 2018 in Putrajaya for the IMFeD Malaysia Get Growth On Track Summit. These paediatricians spend their Saturday to be trained and equipped to help children achieve their full growth potential. Participants were particularly interested in the ‘Measure, Identify & Manage’ forum discussion where members from the IMFeD Malaysia expert panel took part in addressing growth, feeding and nutrition concerns from the floor. The discussions continued at 3 breakout sessions also led by the expert panel on how to effectively assess and manage growth and feeding problems.
As part of supporting the nationwide roll-out of the Get Growth On Track campaign, IMFeD Malaysia will be organising more workshops for paediatricians and general practitioners in Penang, Johor Baru and East Malaysia sometime in the third quarter this year.
I would also like to take this opportunity to invite all of you to the 40th MPA Annual Congress. This year’s congress, themed “Marginalised Children: Addressing Their Needs. Leave No Child Behind Towards SDG” is scheduled on 5-8 September 2018 at Ipoh Convention Centre, Perak.
The scientific committee, led by Datuk Zulkifli Ismail and Datuk Amar Singh, has put up a comprehensive and academically revitalising 3-days scientific programme related to very important but not so popular topics involving marginalised children. Experts from international health agencies, key NGOs, academia and community paediatricians will share their insights into the issues of marginalized children and strategise the way forward.
Notwithstanding, there will be hard core paediatrics discussing endocrinology, immunology, vaccinology, palliative paediatrics, pain management, neurology and developmental paediatrics!
Since it is our 40th year, you can look forward to both a scintillating scientific program and a most exhilarating social program. And to make it even more enjoyable and celebratory, HRH The Raja Permaisuri of Perak has consented to grace our opening ceremony. I would also like to extend a warm welcome to all members to attend the MPA Congress Dinner. Many important announcement about MPA and its future direction will be disclose during the dinner.
Finally, I hope most if not all MPA members would participate in this congress in the hope that this congress would stir the desire to promptly and equitably manage this group of children and leave no child behind in our march towards the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG).
